Adela Smahajova took up a new position last November. It was at a time when the employees of the company in which she got a job had been working mainly from home for several months. Adéla also spent most of her probation at home. She had to learn at a distance most of what she needed to do the work of a salesman on the phone.

Adela has only visited the office about four times in three months. Twice because she learned to work with the company database, which was only possible to a certain extent via the shared screen. He admits that establishing ordinary interpersonal relationships was not easy in such a “test”. There were no informal conversations in the kitchen or at lunch, for example, about what someone did on the weekend or where they were going on holiday.
Nevertheless, there are opportunities to learn about new co-workers. Adela has experienced that more personal matters are sometimes discussed during online meetings after work problems have been resolved. And there are other ways to get to know the people from the company. “Now my colleagues and I agreed that we would meet outside sometime in the afternoon and go for a walk together. That would be nice, “Adéla is looking forward to.”

Although the trial period was not easy for Adela in the home office mode, she also perceives certain positives of the situation. “My start-up in the company was probably calmer when working from home. I was able to concentrate on new things, and no one saw me in the small treads. For example, when I stuttered on the phone, I laughed to myself, and at that moment I was quite glad that none of my colleagues listened to me,” smiles the young woman.
In difficult conditions, she also had more inner motivation to succeed in her new job. “I wanted to prove that the company chose me correctly and that I can adapt to a more difficult situation. Now, at the end of the trial period, I feel all the better that I managed to start, “says Adela with satisfaction.
He also sees the possibilities that the mass use of new communication technologies has brought as a positive thing. “It turned out that it works and this awareness will remain with us in the future,” thinks she. However, she would not want to work from home all the time. He is looking forward to meeting colleagues in the office at least three days a week.

Even if leaders tend to be busy people, don’t be afraid to ask them everything you need to know to complete the assigned tasks. Over time, the boss will probably introduce you and the circle of people you will be able to address various problems will expand.

You will not be able to penetrate the structure of the company and the competencies of individual colleagues right away, but if you have already received information on who to work with, write it down. - Stay active during your training. Learning to work with new computer systems or databases is not easy. Especially at a distance. Get everything explained and shown on a shared screen. During the interpretation, do not be afraid to ask for everything you did not understand. Also, take notes, don’t rely on them remembering where to click when you wake up in three days. If you are unable to make a satisfactory enrollment, try asking the tutor if it would not be possible to record the lesson. Alternatively, ask him if he could refer you to a suitable video course.
- Don’t panic. Did something go wrong and you don’t know what to do? Keep your head calm. Normally, you would ask a colleague in the office for help or go to the boss. But at home you are alone and neither colleagues nor the boss is responding to your chat calls and answering the phone. At such a moment, isolation is probably the most difficult for a newcomer. You may want to write to different people in the company and confide in them about the problem. However, do not do this unless you are sure that they are the people who will help you correct the error. Try to endure it and wait for the boss to call, who will direct you to the right people.
